Flying Chicken

A group of us got together for dinner at the Flying Chicken (Gai Loy Fah). It is a dinner show, when you order the flying chicken, the wait staff catapult your order to another staff ridding a unicycle who catches it in mid air. Very talented, we saw approximately 9 chickens fly through the air and not one of them dropped. The chickens are set aflame and caught a veriety of ways, on a platter, a helmet with a spike and a sword of types in the mouth. It is very fast and difficult to catch with your camera.

Oh a new hiding place...

So last night Bryce was playing with his trucks and he went up to play on the stairs by the front door (which he does a lot) but when I did not see him come back after a bit, I went over to see what was going on. Bryce has discovered a new place to play. By the front door there is a small cabinet with a little door - there is no discernible function for this place so Bryce decided it was his.

Captain Bryce

Bryce got to drive the river boat on our way home from brunch. He loved the boat horn and sounded it many times as we cruised the Chao Phraya River.

17 Months

Sometimes I write this BLOG more as a journal for myself. If you want to read it that is great. I notice that if I forget to write things down that I will forget when and that events ever happened.
Bryce is learning so much. He is bilingual. Bryce understands questions and concepts in both Thai and English. My heart is filled with joy each moment I have to spend with him. It amazes me how much kids filter, what we say and do.
A few bigger words Bryce can say are yellow, bubble, and spider (as in itsy bitsy). I sat down and thought of how many words he knows about 14, plus others I am sure I've forgot. In Thai he knows 9 plus daow - star, tuk-tuk, pla - fish, laow - handsome, uom- hold me, nam - water, pai - go, maa - dog, and piak - wet. He says dadda for Ramiro and Bon for me. Kookai is Paa (aunt- older than mom and dad). Bryce has no dicernable name for Morgan, yet.

Reclining Buddha

Today we took a river taxi to see the Reclining Buddha. It is enormous, you read about it and see pictures in books but it is larger than we imagined. There are 7 Buddha poses, one for each day of the week. When you see a pose it relates to the day of the week the head monk, at the time the Wat was built, was born. The Wat Phra Chettuphon has beautiful statues at several gate entrances.

Symphony In the Park

At the near by park, they have Symphony in the Park. Every Sunday during the cool weeks in Bangkok (about 10 weeks), The Bangkok Symphony plays, it is free to the public. We met up with three other families this week and listened to the music. They usually have a theme each week. Today, they played many love songs. Here are some pictures.

Don't Smell the Flowers

Or as appropriate this week... BE MINE!

This past week I went to Pak Klong Talaat (The Flower Market). It is located near Bangkok's Chinatown. It is a great source for fresh cut flowers. The easiest way to get there is by car or river taxi. It is a couple of blocks from Memorial Bridge stop.

Thousands of Roses bundled for sale.

Bouquets and arrangements ready to go. There were several wedding bouquets too, so lovely.

Haven't you had a few cocktails adorned with a pineapple, cherry and a orchid?

Making orchid arrangements.

I love how regale pineapples look, these are miniatures.

Many Thais give flowers as offerings at the Wats. In Thai culture, smelling the flowers reduces the essence of the offering. One side of the street is all marigolds and offering garlands, the other is lined with gorgeous fresh cut flowers. They are pretty much straight from the growers. There for the prices are nominal. I bought 100 roses for less than $3 USD.

I really loved the rose bud wreath. I did not know if it is taboo to put one on the front door or I would have bought it in an instant. I later found out it is OK, I know for next time.

After visiting the flower market I toured the produce market. I was not in the position to buy a basket of peppers, but they were beautiful to look at.

The prices this coming week, Valentine's Day, will be 10 times more. Even starting at the market source and only ever increasing from there. Happy hearts day to you all.
