The Eve of the Ox

It is the Chinese New Year's Eve. Fireworks are exploding as believers light the works to scare away evil spirits and start the year anew. Full course meals are left for the gods. Everyone, from all cultures, are dressed in celebratory robes to ring in the year of the Ox. Many visuals tell the new year is here, red...lanterns, dragons, envelopes with money. Red is everywhere! The malls in Bangkok often host events for children. This month was Treasure Island, where a ship and Island were made up completely of balloons. It was so intricate and the size was amazing. There were different activities and buried treasure. Bryce excavated a key and unlocked the treasure chest filled with gold (chocolate) coins and toys. He only took a few and left some for future mateie's.

Bryce had his first archaeology dig today. He was given goggles, apron, a shovel and a brush for the job. The best part of archaeology is the digging.

Oh lolli lolli lolli ... lollipop

So my friend Danica had to move back to Canada, but before they left, they left some goodies. I was clever enough to convince mommy and daddy to give me the a lollipop; my first ever. At first I did not know what to do so I waved it around like a wand. Then mommy took a lick and help me take a lick .. there was no going back after that. I got the concept and went to town.

As you can see I made quite a mess, but most good times involve some kind of mess.

So what is this?

Wishbone

It is exciting when I get to teach Kookai about Western Traditions, since I am fortunate to learn so many Thai Traditions.
I asked Kookai if she knew about wishbone's in a turkey and she turned to me with a clueless look on her face. I showed her and her reply was "no". I told her as soon as our 3 Kings Day wishbone had dried I would show her.
Today, I asked her to pick a side, then showed her the grasp and instructed her to pull up on 3. But first, you must make a wish. She pointed to her heart and asked "From here?"
I smiled, as I thought in your head, and replied "yes".

She was very excited she won the larger side of the wishbone.

This would be the first time that we stuck Morgan in with Bryce. Bryce thought it was the best. Morgan had other thoughts, but he always hated bath time.
I have a cute story for you. Bryce just this past week thinks that spinning around and falling on his butt is great fun. So I got Morgan to turn around with hand commands and showed Bryce the command. Bryce now will turn around when shown the command. Auntie Nina always said, Morgan will teach Bryce to be a good dog. Thanks to Vanessa for all the dog training school.

Three Kings Day

It is tradition in Puerto Rico to celebrate Three King's Day, the 12th day of Christmas, or the Epiphany (When the 3 wise men delivered gifts to baby Jesus). This holiday always falls on the 6th of January.
Bryce followed tradition by placing a box of grass (for the camels) and fruit (for the 3 wise men) under his crib last night in hopes to get a visit from the 3 kings. This morning while playing, Bryce discovered a shiny box under his bed. Alas, they came and left him a wooden tool set.
This evening we had a buffet feast with friends. Many children came to celebrate 3 King's Day with Bryce. A good time was had by all.

Happy New Year and welcome to the year 2552/2009.

The Buddhist Calendar is over 500 years ahead of the Christian Calendar. We had a great New Years that we spent with some friends at Tower Park, another apartment complex in BKK. After we went to Samantha's, where the kids played and then went to bed (very late) and we waited, chatting, till midnight to watch the fireworks from her balcony. It was a very good time.
Bryce loves balls especially tennis balls. Today we were able to take him to the tennis courts for a match. He loved it.
