Don't Smell the Flowers

Or as appropriate this week... BE MINE!

This past week I went to Pak Klong Talaat (The Flower Market). It is located near Bangkok's Chinatown. It is a great source for fresh cut flowers. The easiest way to get there is by car or river taxi. It is a couple of blocks from Memorial Bridge stop.

Thousands of Roses bundled for sale.

Bouquets and arrangements ready to go. There were several wedding bouquets too, so lovely.

Haven't you had a few cocktails adorned with a pineapple, cherry and a orchid?

Making orchid arrangements.

I love how regale pineapples look, these are miniatures.

Many Thais give flowers as offerings at the Wats. In Thai culture, smelling the flowers reduces the essence of the offering. One side of the street is all marigolds and offering garlands, the other is lined with gorgeous fresh cut flowers. They are pretty much straight from the growers. There for the prices are nominal. I bought 100 roses for less than $3 USD.

I really loved the rose bud wreath. I did not know if it is taboo to put one on the front door or I would have bought it in an instant. I later found out it is OK, I know for next time.

After visiting the flower market I toured the produce market. I was not in the position to buy a basket of peppers, but they were beautiful to look at.

The prices this coming week, Valentine's Day, will be 10 times more. Even starting at the market source and only ever increasing from there. Happy hearts day to you all.
